Our approach to synthetic fibers.
We apply synthetic fibers in all types of products, from lightweight and soft base layers with great moisture management properties to hard-wearing outer shells for offshore sailors which need to be durable and strong.
Key Resources

understanding Synthetic Fibers
The most commonly used synthetic fibers in our products are polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene, representing over 80% of our raw materials in 2020. Synthetic fibers have the general benefit of being strong and flexible; they can be shaped into many different types of yarns and constructions and dyed in various colors.

The impact of Synthetic Fibers
Synthetic fibers are the most common fibers in the outdoor industry. These fibers are often produced using petroleum, which from an environmental perspective, is not ideal. Synthetic fibers can also be made from recycled raw materials and readily recycled into new raw materials. One negative aspect is that they do not naturally degrade in the environment, and if they are leaked into nature, they can stay there for years.
Learn More about Synthetic Fibers
Our Solen line is an application of our LIFA® Active fabric, combined with recycled coffee ground technology from S’Cafe. Since it is composed of primarily synthetic fabric, you wash SOLEN like you wash your other synthetic fabric base layers.
As a general rule of thumb, you want to follow the instructions for the more sensitive fabric. In this case, wool is the more sensitive fabric, so you would wash your LIFA® Merino garment like you would wash a 100% Merino wool garment. Refer to the instructions provided above! In a pinch, a technical cleaner designed for synthetic fabrics may also be used without harming the garment.
