COTTON

Cotton is one of the most common textile fibers globally and also one of the oldest fibers used by humans for making garments and other products.

Our approach to cotton

Cotton is naturally biodegradable and renewable, and it’s estimated that cotton crops cover 2.4% of the world’s cultivated land. Cotton is very comfortable for close-to-skin applications for low/intensity activities.  At Helly Hansen, we mostly use cotton for casual t-shirts, hoodies, and workwear jackets and pants.

environmental impact

Cotton represents almost 10% of our fiber portfolio. We do, however, recognize our responsibility in doing our best to ensure the cotton we do use is from responsible sources. At Helly Hansen, we are moving to organic cotton where possible. Organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What about cotton clothing?

Cotton does not have the same fabric properties and performance functionalities that synthetic or wool-based fabrics do, so they do not require any technical cleaners, and they can be washed using standard detergent. Nothing bad will happen if you use a technical cleaner on cotton garments, but nothing special will happen, either.
