Our latest ULLR collection, designed for freeride skiing, comes as a result of input from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort ski patrollers, Marisa and Michael, together with professional skiers, Jim Ryan and Madison Rose.
Not many people spend more time on the mountain than these professional skiers who crush it hard all season long. Their playground is filled with deep powder, steep faces, infinite bowls, and evergreen trees. So when we set about designing this year's ULLR collection, we knew it needed to work hard.
Rewind to 2020 when the Elevation Infinity Jacket was voted as the best hardshell product in the Snowsports Segment at ISPO. It had the key features for freeride skiing, but this season, we decided it was time for an upgrade. And who better to speak with than professional skiers? Our design team collaborated with Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and Jim Ryan and Madison Rose to hear their thoughts.
When speaking with the professionals, we quickly learned that a powder skirt wasn't a deal breaker because in steep terrain and deep powder, they prefer to wear bib pants. This season, we removed the powder skirt from the jacket to allow for more protection, freedom of movement, and compatibility with bib pants.
Along with multiple storage pockets; adjustable cuffs and hem; ventilation zippers for breathability: integrated RECCO® reflector for added safety; a neon hood brim and detailing for visibility; and Life Pocket+™ to keep phones running longer in cold environments, this jacket takes your safety seriously, so you can enjoy the ride.
Ski patrollers like Marisa and Michael, who spend long hours on the mountain in very low temperatures need to keep dry throughout the day - both from the elements outside and their sweat vapor on the inside. Striking a balance between waterproofness and breathability is key to the performance of a freeride jacket.
The technology behind the balance is LIFA INFINITY Pro™. It is created with a fully waterproof/breathable LIFA INFINITY™ membrane, which is achieved without the use of chemicals, and combined with our lightweight and water-hating LIFA® face fabric.
High in the mountains where the conditions can change in the blink of an eye, layering is central to an enjoyable experience. As the wind picks up, the Elevation LIFALOFT Down Jacket provides a good option that's both warm and packable.
When working hard in challenging terrain, the hem and cuffs of an insulator are more exposed to powder. In these areas, the design team chose to use our proprietary LIFALOFT™ insulation. This synthetic insulation dries faster and manages moisture better than down. On the sleeves and torso where warmth is needed the most, we combined 85% goose down with 15% goose feather to give added comfort.
The face fabric, made with 20D recycled nylon stretch ripstop, helps you tackle the brush. Elastic cuffs keep out distractions such as unwanted snow while the PFC-free DWR finishing sheds light moisture. For added freedom of movement, the jacket has articulated sleeves to mirror the movement of freeride skiers. We also ensured the jacket accommodates a pack and harness - essential equipment for your freeride adventures.
From our discussions with the ski patrollers, we learned early on that they wear balaclavas, and so a hood only added bulk. This meant we could make the jacket even lighter than originally planned.
I love the fact that the insulator is packable and that there is no hood because we wear buffs.
We partner with ski patrollers and professional freeride skiers who live and breathe steep cliffs in unchartered terrain. The ULLR Freeride collection is deigned to help you make the mountain your winter playground. Each product features carefully considered details - from neon detailing for visbility to technical materials, so you can maximise the experience.
Located west of Golden, British Columbia, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort features over 120 trails and 4,133 vertical feet of extraordinary terrain. It is the sixth largest ski resort in North America and home to spectacular Rocky Mountain vistas and easily accessed backcountry skiing.
