The Ocean Race Europe 2025 sets sail

The Ocean Race Europe 2025 is set to showcase the best of competitive sailing, innovation, and sustainability. From August 10–September 21, 2025, teams will race through some of Europe’s most picturesque and challenging waters, stopping at iconic ports along the way.

Helly Hansen is proud to join this legendary event as the race's official clothing partner, aligning our brand legacy in high-performance sailing gear with the race's relentless pursuit of excellence.

What is The Ocean Race Europe?

The Ocean Race Europe is a scaled version of The Ocean Race, an epic offshore sailing competition that debuted in 1973. While the global race spans the world’s oceans, the 2025 European edition will focus exclusively on Europe, navigating a carefully curated route through extraordinary sailing destinations.

Combining intense competition with a strong sustainability ethos, the Ocean Race Europe aims to inspire innovation while promoting ocean health. Teams will compete in cutting-edge IMOCA boats, designed for maximum speed and efficiency, as they race leg by leg to claim the ultimate prize.

What makes each leg unique

  • Kiel to Portsmouth: The race kicks off with coastal winds, narrow waterways, and tricky currents, putting sailors’ technical skills and teamwork to the test from the very start. Navigating the unpredictable North Sea demands constant focus and adaptability.
  • Portsmouth to Cartagena (via Matosinhos): This leg presents an offshore endurance challenge as teams face the vast expanse of the Atlantic. Strong breezes, rolling waves, and changing weather patterns push both physical and mental stamina to the limit, particularly as they race past Matosinhos.
  • Cartagena to Nice: Transitioning to the Mediterranean, the heat and often calm conditions test sailors' patience and precision. Smooth navigation and careful sail adjustments are key to making the most of light winds in this leg.
  • Nice to Genoa: A sprint-like leg where strategy and speed take center stage. With shorter distances to cover, teams must make quick decisions and seize every tactical opportunity to secure their standings.
  • Genoa to Boka Bay: The grand finale takes sailors through a mix of challenging coastal and open-water conditions, ending in the stunning backdrop of Boka Bay. This leg combines endurance, navigation expertise, and sheer determination, as teams aim to finish strong in this spectacular and demanding conclusion.
