For a Mountain Madness guide, nothing beats being prepared. Below are some tips so you can trust in your gear, and yourself.
- Always carry a map, first aid kit and headlamp.
- Consult other hikers for up-to-date conditions.
- Layer up for warmth. Remove a layer if you get hot.
- Bring a summit treat!
- Tell someone your plan and when you’ll be back.
- When it’s raining, keep some layers dry in your pack.
- Bring a GPS with an SOS function.
- Go slow, it’s not a race.
- Drink ample water and have a purification system.
- Be willing to turn around if conditions become unsafe.
